Will You Get a Wii U Next Year?

Tags: , ,

Nintendo’s yet to be released game console, the Wii U, is already being slammed for not really being the “next generation console” that the company is hoping it would be. When Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter was asked by Industry Gamer about his take on the success of the Wii U next year, Pachter replied, “The Wii U is a pretty ambitious undertaking. It’s a new console, with new controls and architecture, but it’s not quite “next” generation… In order for the launch to be “hugely successful” (as your question phrased it), the console will need three things: a competitive price, compelling first party launch titles, and compelling third party launch titles. We don’t know if the Wii U will have any of these, so it’s quite difficult to predict a hugely successful launch.”

With the Wii U’s launch success looking quite dubious, Nintendo should cross their fingers that this Christmas season will help pad their profits enough to take whatever hit they might from next year’s Wii U launch. With the Wii Family Edition to be released on November 4 (includes the new Wii console and Wii Sports and Wii Party), two Wii Fit Plus bundles coming out by December 2, and the special Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games bundle with newly configured blue Wii console arriving on November 18, Wii fans in the UK should not be hard-pressed looking for just the perfect Wii gift for Christmas.
