Sky Go Raking in Viewers and Revenue for Sky

Tags: , ,

Demand for live and on demand services are definitely up with Sky Go recently reporting a total 1.6 million viewers. It does help their numbers that Sky Go is free for Sky customers, but seeing that Sky reported a marked decrease in new customers for this quarter (26,000 as opposed to 96,000 for the precious quarter) then the uptake of the Sky Go Monthly Ticket option must be quite significant. This is especially in light of the fact that the company saw an increase in revenue this quarter despite the low new customer stats.

If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard of Sky Go, it is simply Sky’s “new service that lets you watch your favourite Sky Sports on the move on a range of devices. It’s only available with Sky and is free for all Sky TV customers in line with their subscription.” Simply put, you can watch favourite sport that’s currently on any of Sky’s 5 sports channels on your iPad or iPhone anytime, anywhere. You can also watch other entertainment channels, including four live movie channels, and even on-demand movies (on-demand movies will incur additional fees) via Sky Go, but only on your laptop (PC/Mac).

Though Sky Go is free to Sky subscribers, the good news to non-subscribers is that there is a monthly ticket option that will allow you to watch up to 32 live channels through your  Xbox 360, laptop, PC or Fetch box, and all 5 Sky Sport channels on your iPhone or iPad. This option starts with a basic £15 package for 20 channels and on-demand movies and goes up to £40 per month for the premium package. It goes without saying that all the monthly ticket options do not include annual contracts.
